What do you love about getting older?
I may be getting closer to 40 and may not be getting my 20-year old body back, but it is so worth it.
Perhaps 37 is a little young to be writing about getting older. I don’t care.
I DON’T CARE might be the best thing about circling the sun dozens of times. With each year that passes I care less and less...about things that don’t matter. That means I have infinite more energy to care about the things that do matter.
A few things I’m enjoying:
Caring less about changing my body and more about feeling good in it.
Easier to tell people the truth because there’s less fear about what anyone thinks.
Deeper understanding that circumstances are always changing, whatever is happening will pass.
Not caring if everyone likes me so I can focus on spending time with the people who matter most to me.
Less trying to fit in and more comfortable being myself.
Not apologizing for everything. (Women, this is HUGE)
New [potentially uncool] hobbies and interests!
Embracing comfortable but still stylish shoes.
Understanding more and more the importance of quality time instead of trying to do it all.
Walking, I adore walking. All other exercise is a bonus.
Now it’s your turn. What do you like about getting older? Does it feel good to slow down and enjoy it more? Are you kids getting older or moving out so now you get to rediscover yourself and what to do with all that time you spent managing their lives? Do you feel more mastery or confidence in your career?
I’m excited for my 40s. I remember when it used to be a symbol of oldness and that being “over the hill” was a depressing thing. But it’s all about how you choose to perceive it, so you can look at all the youthful things you no longer have OR you can look to everything you are gaining.
